The Lyon County Department on Aging serves senior citizens of Lyon County with a variety of services. The Department on Aging is here to assist the aging population and their loved ones with referrals, information, transportation, volunteer and nutrional services.

RSVP

Lyon County RSVP offers senior citizens age 55 and older many opportunities to volunteer in the community. Our goal at RSVP is to enhance the lives of our volunteers and to create a better community. There are no minimum amount of hours required to volunteer with RSVP. You can choose to be a "regular" at a volunteer site or just volunteer when you have an extra hour or two. For more information, stop by our office on the second floor of the courthouse or give us a call.

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and make friends along the way.

Senior Centers

Each Lyon County Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities, which may include:  Bingo, Puzzles, Computer Labs, Birthday Dinners, Cards, Music, Quilting, Exercise Programs, Faith-based activities, Crafts, and much, much more!  Each Senior Center offers a daily nutrition program.  Meals are usually served at noon and cost is $2.50 donation for individuals 60 years or older, Under 60 is a required $3.75 per meal charge.

THE ROUTES ARE FOR ANYONE AND EVERYONE

INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS SHOULD CONTACT 343-4207 TO ARRANGE AVAILABLE ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION (ONE DAY IN ADVANCE, PLEASE). DISPATCHERS AVAILABLE FROM 8 AM – 5 PM
Routes & Para-Transit Available Monday Thru Friday.

FAMILY AND FREQUENT RIDER DISCOUNTS:
SINGLE FREQUENT RIDER: $30/PER MONTH
FAMILY FREQUENT RIDER(five members in same household): $39/PER MONTH

REGULAR ROUTE FARES
Full Fare: $1.75 – Reduced Fare: $1.25 – Changeover(s): Free!
L-Cat Bus Passes (10 rides): $12.00

DRIVERS DO NOT MAKE CHANGE! Passes may be purchased from the driver, or from the L-CAT office. Reduced fares are extended to Senior Citizens, students, youth 6-16, persons with disabilities, and Medicare cardholders. Please call L-CAT for restrictions and an application from 343-4207.

RIDING THE BUS:
Please arrive at the bus stop five minutes early and be prepared to board the bus with your pass, exact change (drivers do not make change), and/or ID card if paying reduced fare. If you wish to depart the bus at a point other than a specific bus stop, notify the driver upon boarding. Drivers will not stop at places not on the direct route except for cases of para-transit deviated stops. Smoking, food, drink, radios, tape players, and pets (except guide animals) are prohibited on buses and in changeover areas.

PARA-TRANSIT:
Para-transit services are available for those individuals who qualify. The Lift provides public transportation for persons who are unable to use route services due to a disability. For more information, or to request an application, call 343-4207. Para-transit services will also be available on a pre-scheduled – appointment basis during the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. This is in addition to being available during hours of route service
